new (?) music - Brooke Fraser

many of you know of Brooke Fraser from her amazing state-side debut Albertine. I myself first heard Brooke through that very album, which prompted me to look for more. I mean, who wouldn't right?
This search yielded in me finding her real first album, What to Do With Daylight, which was released only in Australia - Brooke's home country.
Thanks to the magic of the internets, we can all enjoy the songs off Brooke's 2003 break into the record industry. In short, I feel that Albertine is a deeper and more complex album, but feel that 'Daylight' has more pleasant songs - you know, the ones you'd leave playing in your car when you have a friend or loved one on board. As always, have a listen yourself & enjoy.
peronal fav. from the album? hard to pick put "Without You" is a never-skip for me.
love the music video for it too ;]

new music - Hillsong United
I couldn't wait for this album once I heard the new songs back at their concert a month ago.
I was unable to find it at any local store, so iTunes it was.
Hillsong needs no publicity to you guys, so here are the appropriate links:
Sample: Oh You Bring
this song alone was reason enough to get this album. "Soon"

new music - Melody Gardot
Melody Gardot is back and she's sounding amazing :]
This 24 year old jazz vocalist first got my attention with her heroic use of music as therapy after being hit with a car and leaving her with severe nerve damage at age 19.
In her own words,
"Music is the thing that saved me.
It’s the thing that gave me purpose."

Her last release Worrisome Heart was good, and I bought the album for a couple of friends in confidence, but there was something missing - I just couldn't figure out what. Whatever it was, it's definitely not missing in her newest release My One and Only Thrill. The sound production on this album is definitely one up her last work - it just sounds fuller. Her voice shines as the star of each track, as it should, and the instrumentation keeps a very elaborate yet prim & proper backdrop in all the tracks - this was a winner from the very first listen and I'm sure it'll stay on my current playlist for a while.

new music - Diana Krall "Quiet Nights"
sorry if this wasn't what you were expecting, but yes this was the surprise around the bend. I had no idea she was working on a bossa-nova album!

I found out this album was coming on its release date.
Better late than never I suppose :]
enjoy!
Many reviews are stating that they hate the new style and want the "old Diana" back. I'm sure this is just a temporary venture into the land of ballads and bossa nova, and a welcome change for me. Therefore, despite the low reviews on amazon, ladies & gentlemen, I present to you, Ms. Diana Krall accompanied by her quartet and a symphony for her 12th studio album - "Quiet Nights"

Happy Valentine's Day!
Local talent can be awesome sometimes and Jennifer Chung is proof of that.
(Just to clarify, she's going through the fanmail
she received recently, not actually singing in this one)
She uploaded this last night on her YouTube account
as a Vday present for all of us (single) boys and girls :P love the song? keep it!
as for dinner tonight,

who's with me? :P

Happy New Year
now that the fireworks have ended their sonic escapade and the "new" has become the "now", I leave you, momentsbefore 1/1/09 comes to a close, with quiet song to gently pull you out of the loud festivities of today and into the finally quiet first night of the new year. This a favorite song of mine that has accompanied me from time to time in 2008, and will definitely stay close in 2009 :]
as always, enjoy.
